Tips On Reducing Stress in Your Daily Life

“Set peace of mind as your highest goal and organize your entire life around it.” ~ Brian Tracy

Stress is a fact of life and a certain amount of stress, can even be good for you. But, too many stressful situations can prevent you from reaching your full potential. There is no magic wand to wave away stress. It will take a determined effort on your part to control your lifestyle and to prevent stress overload. However, the basics of reducing and eliminating stress are easy to organize and practice. But, you must be willing to put in the time and effort.

First, you must plan ahead. You must be organized and prepared.

There are easily accessible tools available to you in your battle against stress..you just need a pencil and a piece of note paper. Our stress levels can often increase because we allow a wave of different and conflicting thoughts to flood our mind. When this occurs, we tend to believe that the tasks ahead are too overpowering.

So, my advice is to..Prepare for tomorrow the night before !

Take the time to sit down with that pencil and paper and list all the assignments you feel are important to complete the next day. Once all of these tasks are listed, review the list and re-write the list with each task listed in order of importance. Then, mark the amount of time you think it would take to complete each task. Review the total time and when you reach the time limit you feel comfortable with, draw a line across the page..this is now your schedule for the following day.

Now, there is one more important item that we cannot overlook when we finalize our schedule. It is extremely important that you allow time for relaxing, exercising and to eat a healthy meal. These are 3 key components that are critical to stress reduction.

“IN TIMES OF GREAT STRESS OR ADVERSITY, IT’S ALWAYS BEST TO KEEP BUSY, TO PLOW YOUR ANGER AND YOUR ENERGY INTO SOMETHING POSITIVE” ~ Lee Iacocca

Watch the following video where Brian Tracy discusses …developing peace of mind to create greater happiness in life. Eliminate stress and negativity in your life and create relaxation by finding peace of mind and positive focus.

Something positive..sounds great, but not so easy. Maintaining a positive attitude also takes a great deal of work and commitment.
But, if you follow two basic fundamental rules of positive thinking, you can get your life into a positive direction. This new direction will lower your stress in any situation. Plus, as a bonus, you will become a happier, more contented individual.

First step.. stop all the negative talk.

You can start today..every time you mention a negative thought, repeat what you said and change the negative into a positive. You can even make a game of it. Tell those you trust how you are trying to change your lifestyle and ask them to help you. Encourage them to yell out “negative” every time you mention a negative thought. You can even offer a reward to your friends who catch you displaying negative thoughts.

Repetition is the key to changing negative thoughts into positive thoughts.

You will need to create your own personal song in your head that you can silently repeat to yourself. This will serve as a constant reminder to you of your new positive, less stressful lifestyle. You can start with something simple like the word “POSITIVE” that you can repeat to yourself.

Second step..stay away from those who view life with a pessimistic outlook.

If you associate with people that are not enthusiastic about life, they WILL drag you down. Connect with the people who make you happy and surround yourself with people who you can talk to about your feelings.

One last basic rule is to find the humor in anything you can. If you take the time to laugh loud and often, you will find that this is a great medicine for stress relief.

  1. Excellent points Marc! Some of the items that you mentioned I make a point to incorporate into my life on a daily basis, especially keeping those negative thoughts (and people) away. I don’t believe most people really understand the impact that regular stress can have on their physical and emotional health/wellbeing. Other key things that I do to assist the stress level keep low is to have a daily task list of must do’s (no more than six a day) and to just know it’s okay if I don’t get everything accomplished that day, to just move those items to the top of my six most list for the following day…small bites of the elephant 😉 Christine

    • Hi Christine,

Thanks so much for the great feedback…it is essential to just take those small bites, so that your day and tasks don’t overwhelm.

I’m also trying to learn how to say “NO” a little more often, otherwise the daily task list certainly gets sidetracked. It is important not to take on more than you can handle in order to avoid stress.

  2. Hi Marc,

A while back I listened to a seminar by Brian Tracy and he has been a big influence in my way of thinking.

It may sound like an easy task…. but….if you are not used to it ….. the negative thoughts and actions seem to be the norm.

Great post and thanks for your comments at my blog.

    Cheers
    Bryan

    • Hey Brian,

Thanks for the comment…I enjoyed reading your blog post.
Brian Tracy has long been a great influence in my way of thinking as well. I joined iLearningGlobal
because of Brian and was very sad to see them close their doors recently.

But, I remain an Affiliate for Brian because I believe strongly in his message and his teaching.

As far as reducing stress in your life…it has gotten more difficult because we are bombarded by negativity all the time, between the news ( both on TV and in print ), online and people we know, etc.

So, it is critical to make sure that we filter this information to the best of our ability.

      To your success,
      Marc

  3. Hi Marc,
It’s nice to discover your blog through TSA. Stress is literally killing so many folks that your blog post is very timely and useful. My favorite advice was to invest less time with negative people. There is a whole book in that one sentence! We really do become more like the people we spend the most time with so we should be careful to associate with positive, motivated, enthusiastic people as much as possible. It will be interesting to see how the negative folks react when you start to speak more positively. It will likely make them very uncomfortable but we should be positive anyway! I hope you’re having a POWERFUL week! Allegra

    • Hi Allegra,

Thanks for your comment. There are so many situations these days that have the potential to add stress to our lives. Every time you watch the news or read a newspaper or think about the economy.

So, it is so important to expose yourself to those things that are positive in your life. It can be exhausting trying to turn a negative person around and expends too much energy.

Humor truly is a great thing and I find that laughter is the best medicine for stress…

      To your success,
      Marc

Brian Tracy has been an inspiration to me for many years. Once you surround yourself with positive thoughts and think in terms of success, you will be on the “Road To Success”

One of the great things that Brian mentions is that “You are what you think about most of the time, so fill your mind with positive thoughts.”

      I couldn’t agree more.

      To your continued success,

  6. Hi Marc,

    great food for thought.

Getting rid of negative thought and those who want to pull you into their wallowing is great advice.

In regards to anger, for many reasons I learned to hide my anger and thanks to all the work I have been doing on myself I am actually starting to feel glimpses of it.

Looking forward to channeling it into something positive.

    Thank you!
    Cheers
