Self Discipline: The Discipline Of Daily Time Management

“The purpose of time management and getting more done in less time is to enable you to spend more face time with the people you care about and doing the things that give you the greatest amount of joy in life.” ~ Brian Tracy

According to Brian Tracy, there are nine disciplines you can develop that will improve every area of your life. We have learned that every exercise of self-discipline strengthens every other discipline at the same time, just as every weakness in self-discipline weakens you in other disciplines as well.

Today, my articles on self-discipline continue as we focus on the Discipline Of Daily Time Management with a little help from Brian Tracy….( be sure to claim your FREE gift posted below the video )

Time management is no easy task. A good time management plan will actually take time to develop and implement. However, be aware that even though you spend much time planning and managing your use of time, it will prove to be an effort that will pay dividends to you…

Because, good time management is the only way to successfully approach any project. This will also allow you to free up time for other leisure activities as you learn to make more productive use of your time.

To achieve all your goals and become everything you are capable of becoming you must get your time under control.
Psychologists generally agree that a “sense of control” is the key to feelings of happiness, confidence, power, and personal well-being.
A sense of control is only possible when you practice excellent time management skills. To change or improve your life in any way, you have to make new choices and new decisions that are more in alignment with who you really are and what you really want.

It doesn’t matter if you are an adult, a teenager, a Home Based entrepreneur or you work in an office, if you master the art of  Time Management… you WILL reap the benefits.

Watch this video where Brian will give you some important tips that will assist in your time management discipline.

Rule: “Every minute spent in planning saves ten minutes in execution.”
The more you plan, the better you use your time, and the more you accomplish.

1. Begin by making a list of everything that you have to do. The best time to write your daily list is the night before so that your subconscious can work on it while you sleep.

2. Organize the list by priority before starting work. The basic tool of time management is a list, organized by priority, and used as a constant tool for personal management. The fact is that you can’t manage time; you can only manage yourself. That is why time management requires self-discipline, self-control, and self-mastery.

3. Practice the 80/20 rule, which says that 80% of your results come from 20% of your activities.

4. Use the ABCDE method to set priorities. This is based on considering the consequences of doing or not doing a particular task.  An “A” activity is something that moves you toward your goal, the faster and more directly the better. A “B” activity is an activity that does not move you toward a goal that is important to you.

A = Must do – serious consequences for non-completion
B = Should do – mild consequences for non-completion
C = Nice to do – no consequences for non-completion
D = Delegate – everything possible
E = Eliminate – everything you can to free up more time

5. Organize your list by A-1, A-2, A-3, and so on.

6. Start on your A-1 task first thing in the morning.

7. Discipline yourself to concentrate single-mindedly on your A-1 task until it is 100% complete.

8. The discipline of good time management spreads to all your other disciplines. It has immediate payoff in improved results, and long term payoff in terms of the quality of your life work.

What Is The Key To Ending Procrastination?

“There is never enough time to do everything, but there is always enough time to do the most important thing.” ~ Brian Tracy

Don’t forget to grab your FREE Gift from Brian Tracy at the end of the post…

So many successful people struggle with procrastination.

Are you one of them?

It’s understandable. If you’re like many people, your to-do list is so long and overwhelming, you aren’t sure where to start or how to tackle everything on it.

But the fact is, procrastination doesn’t help. For one thing, you don’t get done what you need to get done. Or you get done the menial, unimportant things while the big, important ones are looming over your head all day (or even all week).

Unfortunately, it’s the big ones that have the most potential to affect your life – and increase your income.

For you to develop sufficient desire to develop time management and organizational skills, you must be intensely motivated by the benefits you feel you will enjoy. You must want the results badly enough to overcome the natural inactivity that keeps you doing things the same old way.

Structure and organize everything that you possibly can. Think ahead, plan for contingencies, prepare thoroughly, and focus on specific results. Only then can you be completely relaxed and spontaneous when the situation changes.

The better organized you are in the factors that are under your control, the greater freedom and flexibility you have to quickly make changes whenever they are necessary.

Make Your Lists a Habit and Organize your list and tasks according to priority.

So how do you STOP procrastinating so you can become more productive and make more money?

So many successful people struggle with procrastination. Watch this video where Brian Tracy shares how to “Stop Procrastination Now With The ABCDE Method”…a powerful Priority setting technique.

Always work from a list.

When something new comes up, add it to the list before you do it. You can increase your productivity and output by 25% or more from the first day that you begin working consistently from a list.

Make out your list the night before, at the end of the workday. Move everything that you have not yet accomplished onto your list for the coming day and then add everything that you have to do the next day. When you make out your list the evening or the night before, your subconscious mind works on your list all night long while you sleep. Often you will wake up with great ideas and insights that you can use to get your job done faster and better than you had initially thought.

The more time you take to make written lists of everything you have to do, in advance, the more effective and efficient you will be.

Take Action Immediately

Successful, effective people are those who launch directly into their major tasks and then discipline themselves to work steadily and single-mindedly until those tasks are complete.

Mark Twain once said that if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worse things that is going to happen to you all day long. Your “frog” is your biggest, most important task, the one you are most likely to procrastinate on if you don’t do something about it.
If You Have to Eat Two Frogs, Eat the Ugliest one First.

This is another way of saying that if you have two important tasks before you, start with the biggest, hardest, and most important task first. Discipline yourself to begin immediately and then to persist until the task is complete before you go on to something else.

Practice is the key to mastering any skill. Fortunately, your mind is like a muscle. It grows stronger and more capable with use. With practice, you can learn any behavior or develop any habit that you consider either desirable or necessary.

Improving your time management skills will improve the quality of your life in every area.

Stop Procrastination Now and Eat That Frog!

“There is never enough time to do everything, but there is always enough time to do the most important thing.” ~ Brian Tracy

The following is an article from my Mentor Brian TracyOverwhelm can cause procrastination. When you don’t know where to start, its easy to put off starting at all. Procrastination can have many adverse side effects and be very draining. So, don’t let that happen to you. Follow the steps outlined by Brian below and eliminate procrastination from your life.

The Truth About Frogs by Brian Tracy

Mark Twain once said that if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worse things that is going to happen to you all day long. Your “frog” is your biggest, most important task, the one you are most likely to procrastinate on if you don’t do something about it.

If You Have to Eat Two Frogs, Eat the Ugliest one First
This is another way of saying that if you have two important tasks before you, start with the biggest, hardest, and most important task first. Discipline yourself to begin immediately and then to persist until the task is complete before you go on to something else.

If You Have to Eat a Live Frog at all, it Doesn’t Pay to Sit and Look at it for Very Long
The key to reaching high levels of performance and productivity is to develop the lifelong habit of tackling your major task first thing each morning. You must develop the routine of “eating your frog” before you do anything else and without taking too much time to think about it.

Take Action Immediately
Successful, effective people are those who launch directly into their major tasks and then discipline themselves to work steadily and single-mindedly until those tasks are complete. “Failure to execute” is one of the biggest problems in organizations today. Many people confuse activity with accomplishment. They talk continually, hold endless meetings, and make wonderful plans, but in the final analysis, no one does the job and gets the results required.

Develop a Positive Addiction
You can actually develop a “positive addiction” to endorphins and to the feeling of enhanced clarity, confidence, and competence that they trigger. When you develop this addiction, you will, at an unconscious level, begin to organize your life in such a way that you are continually starting and completing ever more important tasks and projects. You will actually become addicted, in a very positive sense, to success and contribution.

No Shortcuts
Practice is the key to mastering any skill. Fortunately, your mind is like a muscle. It grows stronger and more capable with use. With practice, you can learn any behavior or develop any habit that you consider either desirable or necessary.

Action Exercise
What is your “frog?” What is the one task that you despise doing each day? Once you have chosen your “frog” make it a habit to wake up every morning and do that task first.
